Acceptable use of AI

1.What Biz is

Biz is an AI-powered study coach built into BizTeach. When you talk to Biz you are talking to a computer program powered by a large language model, not to a person and not to your teacher. We say this clearly wherever Biz appears, in line with Article 50 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act.

Biz is limited to the Leaving Certificate Business course. It explains topics, asks you questions to check understanding, walks you through the stages of the Business Alive Investigative Study, and gives feedback on work you wrote.

2.What Biz will and will not do

Biz will:

• explain a topic as many times as you need, in different ways and at the reading level you set;
• ask you questions and tell you what to revise;
• point you to the chapter and notes a topic belongs to;
• show where marks were earned and missed in an answer you wrote, using the published SEC marking scheme as a guide.

Biz will not:

Write your Investigative Study or any assessed work. Make your research decisions or draw your conclusions. Award you a grade or predict your result. Answer questions outside Leaving Cert Business. Pretend to be a person, or give medical, legal, financial or personal advice.

3.Academic integrity

Work you submit for assessment must be your own. The State Examinations Commission treats submitting work written by someone or something else as your own as a serious breach of its rules, and schools have their own policies too. Biz is designed to guide, not to ghostwrite: it will help you understand what a stage of Business Alive asks for and will pressure-test your ideas, but it will not produce the work for you.

Using Biz, or any AI, to generate assessed work and submit it as your own is a breach of our Terms of use and may lead to your account being closed.

4.Your responsibilities

• Check what Biz tells you. AI can be confidently wrong. Compare important points with your notes and ask your teacher if in doubt.
• Do not paste in other people's personal data, such as names, addresses or details about classmates, family or teachers.
• Do not try to make Biz act outside its purpose, break its rules, or produce harmful, hateful or explicit content.
• Use your own account. Accounts are personal and, for under-16s, set up with a parent or guardian.
• Tell us if something goes wrong. If Biz says something wrong, inappropriate or upsetting, report it (see below).

5.Our responsibilities

• Transparency: we tell you that Biz is AI, and this page explains how it works and what it cannot do.
• Human oversight: a person at BizTeach is responsible for Biz. Conversations are logged for a limited period so safety concerns and errors can be reviewed. You can ask for a human review of anything Biz has said.
• No manipulation: we do not use AI to nudge, pressure or exploit young people, to recognise emotions, or to build profiles of them. These practices are prohibited by Article 5 of the AI Act and we do not do them.
• No training on your work: what you type is used to answer you, not to train AI models.
• Boundaries: Biz is built to decline off-topic, personal and unsafe requests, and to signpost support services if a student seems to be at risk. See our Safeguarding statement.
• Accuracy: we test Biz against the course and marking schemes and correct it when it gets things wrong. Its feedback remains study guidance, not an SEC grade.

6.Data and privacy

Questions you ask and work you paste in are sent to our AI model provider [to confirm] to generate a reply, without your name or account details. Our Privacy notice explains the legal basis, retention periods and your rights, including the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you. Biz makes no such decisions.

7.Teachers and schools

Biz is a study aid for students, not a marking tool for teachers. Its feedback is guidance for the student and should not be recorded as a grade. Schools can decide how, and whether, students use Biz alongside their own AI policies, and we will support any school that wants to talk it through.

8.Reporting a problem with an AI answer

If Biz gives an answer that is wrong, inappropriate or worrying, use the report option beside the reply on the platform or email support@bizteach.ie with a screenshot. We look at every report, fix what we can, and reply where a reply is useful.

9.Changes

We will update this page as Biz develops and as the AI Act's obligations come into force. The date at the top shows the latest version.
